The CKCA National Forum 2024 in Winnipeg was a sold-out event, bringing together over 120 attendees from across Canada. The forum showcased the diversity and strength of leading Canadian manufacturing, with companies from different industries, such as Friesens in book manufacturing and Leisure Travel Triple E in RV production, joining cabinet manufacturers in shared learning and collaboration.
Our program included exclusive facility tours, thanks to Rosehill Woodcrafters, E&R Furnishings, Friesens, Leisure Travel Triple E, and Decor Cabinets. These companies graciously opened their doors, sharing their unique spaces and expertise, allowing attendees to observe different production processes and learn valuable insights. Each tour highlighted the dedication, adaptability, and passion for craftsmanship that connects us all, reflecting the strength of our shared commitment to the manufacturing industry.
Networking as always plays a vital role in our forums. Speaking with like-minded members who understand the unique challenges of our industry allowed attendees to share ideas, learn from each other’s experiences and spark new avenues for growth. Conversations during the Supplier & Manufacturing Round Table, facilitated by Stan Pauls from Decor Cabinets, encouraged open discussions about successes and challenges, allowing participants to gain valuable new insights from each other. The themed Dine Around dinners - hosted by the companies we toured - focused on essential topics like Processes - SOP + CI, Succession Planning + Employee Ownership, Networking, and Automation, offering opportunities for members to delve deeply into these areas in a relaxed setting. These discussions provided fresh perspectives, unveiling opportunities for improvement and problem solving that some attendees didn’t realize they needed, all thanks to the power of networking and the willingness to embrace new ideas.
President’s message
As CKCA’s newly appointed president, I’m honoured to carry forward this legacy of collaboration and excellence. Representing CKCA as the first South Asian female president and a third-generation leader at Sunrise Kitchens, I bring a background in people & culture and leadership coaching that guides my commitment to fostering individual growth and empowering companies to reach new horizons. By prioritizing the well being of our people, we’re not just strengthening our businesses; we’re setting the foundation for innovation and expansion.
I deeply believe in the power of a supportive, growth-oriented culture and I’m excited to bring this vision to CKCA. Our industry’s success is rooted in the strength of our workforce and the environments we create together.
Industry insights & innovation
The National Forum wasn’t just about touring facilities; it was also a chance to discuss the future of our industry with visionary leaders. Paul Siekmann from Merit Kitchens and Mathieu Elias from Muskoka Cabinet Company offered invaluable insights as next-generation industry voices, emphasizing how fostering strong connections within their businesses will pave the way for successful transitions. They discussed how technology can reshape our industry and highlighted the importance of a people-first approach. Their perspectives emphasized the urgency of adopting these innovations now to ensure the next generation is equipped for long-term success.
We also had an informative session introducing CKCA’s new Technology Peer Group, spearheaded by Luke Elias and Chris Leonard. This initiative invites manufacturers to actively participate in creating technological solutions tailored to industry-specific needs. By pooling our resources, we aim to increase buying power and improve efficiency while maintaining competitiveness. The peer group represents an exciting step forward, one that aligns closely with CKCA’s vision of collaborative growth and continuous improvement.
