Jasneet Singh Sidhu was feeling good during the competition.
Jasneet Singh Sidhu is the big winner of AWMAC Ontario’s 2024 Apprenticeship Contest held Saturday, March 16, at Conestoga College in Kitchener.
Aidan Barker finished in second place and Ian Kickiy came in third.
The first place winner also collected $500, sponsored by Archmill House; second place earned $250, sponsored by DM Millwork; and third place took home $100, sponsored by Art for Everyday. Evergreen Architecture donated $150 for the trophies.
Other participants were: Rubes Lapointe, Paul Oppermann, Jonathan Ledgley, Jacob Poirier and Hannah Savescu
“It was a great successful event,” says Laurie Suikki, association manager of AWMAC’s Ontario Chapter.
“Conestoga College’s Steve Bader was awesome. He was there to open the doors and stayed until everyone had left. A huge thank you to Conestoga and especially Steve for all his time.”
AWMAC’s Apprenticeship Contest is an opportunity for participants to show off their woodworking skills and compete with their peers for cash prizes and get their name known in the industry.
The winning project from the Ontario event will automatically be sent to AWMAC’s National Convention where it will be judged for a national award.
The contest is open to apprentices and or recent graduates. Each competitor received drawings, specifications and instructions for their project seven days in advance of the contest.

All participants were from Conestoga College, except Jasneet Singh Sidhu who is from Humber College.
Judges of this year’s event were Nick Anastas of Svend Nielsen/ AMWAC Ontario President, Jody Wyman of Bendt Kitchens & Millwork, and Frank Sansalone, AWMAC Ontario Life Member .
Formica and Evergreen Architecture sponsored the morning and afternoon breaks.
And materials used by students for their projects were supplied by Archmill House, Brenlo, Baywood Interiors, LK Custom and Svend Nielson. And Hettich is shipping the winning cabinet to the AWMAC National Apprenticeship Contest.
