The government of Canada will contribute more than $27 million over the next five years to Skills Canada.
The funding, provided under the Canadian Apprenticeship Strategy, will be used to promote careers in the skilled trades and technologies to the country’s youth.
When young people learn, work and succeed, Canada thrives. That is why the Government of Canada continues to invest in youth, so that they get the education, the experience, and the job opportunities to build a stronger Canada for generations to come.
"Young people want to help build Canada's future. With the nature of work changing fast, today's investment will help young people develop the skills they need to take advantage of future career opportunities in the skilled trades," said Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, Carla Qualtrough.
Skills Canada provides hands-on experience in skilled trades and technologies to youth through its many programs and events, including its flagship event the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC). Most recently held at the end of May in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Skills Canada included more than 40 skilled trade and technology competitions in which more than 500 students from across Canada participated.
