Carlo DeFrancesco
It is with deep sadness that AWMAC's leadership announces the passing of our dear friend and devoted volunteer, Carlo DeFrancesco. Carlo passed away on June 28, 2023, at the age of 57, after a valiant fight against glioblastoma.
Carlo leaves behind his wife, Angela, and three children, Christopher (Jessica), Cynthia (Rocky), and Damian.
Carlo’s career in the woodworking industry began as a teenager, working summers in the family business Green Valley Woodworking with his father, Salvatore. Carlo and his brother John took over the business in 1989. Carlo was a trailblazer who was passionate about the trade. His company joined AWMAC as a manufacturer member in 1994, and he eventually became the AWMAC Ontario Chapter President from 2005 until 2007 and then again in 2021 until recently. Carlo was a dedicated board member of AMWAC (national) from 2013 to 2019 and held the role of president from 2016 to 2018.
Carlo made a significant impact on AWMAC’s mission through the implementation of governance policies and processes and was key in building AWMAC’s strong relationship with our standards manual partners, Woodwork Institute. Carlo will be remembered for his insightful perspectives, follow-through, and unique ability to approach situations with deep consideration and fairness.
On June 9, 2023, AWMAC President Jeff Clermont bestowed AWMAC’s highest honour to Carlo, the President’s Award, which Carlo’s family accepted during the AWMAC National Convention in Toronto.
Carlo’s presence will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Carlo’s family and friends during this difficult time.
We are forever grateful for his contributions and the legacy he leaves behind.
