Conestoga College celebrated students’ excellence with its Woodworking Showcase on Aug. 19.
The event was held at the college’s Woodworking Centre of Ontario at the Kitchener - Doon campus and open to the Conestoga community, including industry partners. Faculty judged projects based on design and development, craftsmanship, and product presentation.
The event, which showcases projects designed and manufactured by Conestoga College’s Woodworking Technology second-year students, was sponsored by FS Tool and featured 17 projects.
Malte Plokhaar received top honour for a two-toned maple display cabinet. The piece was crafted from solid maple, maple veneer and particle board and features a curved top. Plokhaar said the degree of difficulty of the curved top presented a challenge he wanted to take on for this project.
1st place and $350 went to Malte Plokhaar – Two tone maple display cabinet with rounded top.
2nd place and $250 went to Seth England with an acoustic guitar made from Wenge and spruce.
3rd place and $150 went to David Lewis with a Red Oak harvest table.
